A 30-minute made-for-television British documentary about the phenomenon known as “homosexuality.” We see interviews with several examples of this breed of human: a male hairdresser who is content with his sexuality, but has been unlucky in love; a “butch” queer woman (quite possibly trans) who laments that she can hardly walk down the street without being harassed; an older gay couple; a friendly older lesbian couple; and a sad housewife. There is a lot of emphasis on the tragic side of these folks’ existences (we hear from people who struggle with being unable to have children or maintain long-term relationships, etc.) but it’s worth remembering that this documentary comes from a time when same-sex acts were still illegal in Britain, and its stated mission is to put a human face on the subject.
